German automaker BMW has introduced the 2014 X5 sport activity vehicle (SAV), which is claimed to be about 200lbs lighter than the outgoing model.
The third generation of the X5 is offered in three engine variants, including a petrol and two diesel units.
The petrol variant X5 xDrive50i is powered by a new V8 engine that generates an output of 450hp, while the diesel variants including X5 xDrive30d and X5 M50d M are powered by revised six-cylinder in-line engine and tri-turbo six-cylinder in-line unit, producing outputs of 258hp and 381hp respectively.
All the engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with additional BMW EfficientDynamics technology including auto start stop function and ECO PRO mode.
Standard features of the new SAV include driving experience control switch, adaptive M suspension and electric power steering, while BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system is also offered as part of the dynamic and professional adaptive suspension packages.
Safety features include night vision with human and animal detection, dynamic light spot, lane change warning, speed limit info, parking assistant with longitudinal and lateral guidance, surround view with 360-degree display, driving assistant including lane departure warning, collision warning and pedestrian warning with braking function.
Additional features include driving assistant plus, active cruise control with stop & go function together with braking to a standstill, traffic jam assistant with active speed and steering angle control without driver input.
