German sports car manufacturer Porsche has opened its expanded production plant in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany.
Along with the final assembly line, the plant now features a body shop and an ultra-modern paint shop. It has the capacity to produce 50,000 plus annually.
Currently, the plant is manufacturing the Cayenne and Panamera models of Porsche. It will now produce the new Porsche Macan.
Porsche executive board chairman Matthias Müller said: "The fact that Porsche has invested half a billion Euro in the Leipzig plant in addition to the original 250 million Euro, thus creating 1,500 new jobs, makes one thing clear: We are totally convinced in the qualities of this location and that the Macan will be a marketing success."
Besides this, Porsche will introduce its fifth model line, the new Macan S and Macan Turbo, in the US at its dealers in summer 2014.
Macan S compact SUV is equipped with a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 engine, which can produce 340HP. It can accelerate 0-60mph in 5 seconds.
The Macan Turbo is powered by a 3.6L twin-turbo V6 engine with 400HP. It can accelerate 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds.
