German-based Weidenhammer Packaging Group's (WPG) plastics division Weidenhammer Plastic Packaging (WPP) manufactured a 225g stay-fresh cup for cheese maker Goldsteig's Bambini Mozzarella product.
Goldsteig, which decided to strengthen its brand and repackage its Bambini Mozzarella product, partnered with Weidenhammer, according to packagingeurope.com.
Both developed a plastic cup suited for the cheese product packaging and quick-and-easy salads.
WPP sales director Andreas Rothschink said a three-dimensional image of mozzarella on the cup was paramount to its client.
"Thanks to our expertise in the In-Mould Labelling process, we managed to meet these requirements and develop a solution that makes the product stand out from the competition at the point-of-sale," Rothschink said.
Unlike conventional In-Mould Labelling (IML) packaging, the cup has a soft contoured underside with the label covering the entire surface, which was possible earlier only with thermoform containers and sleeve labeling.
