German based aluminum rolling manufacturer, Novelis will expand the automotive sheet production capacity at its rolling and finishing facility in Gottingen.
With the expansion the company expects to meet growing demand for light, recyclable aluminum sheet for automobile manufacturing.
Following the expansion, the facility will initially produce 20,000t, while the second phase expansion will increase the plants annual production capacity to 40,000t.
Novelis Europe president Erwin Mayr said the company is adding capacity worldwide to meet the rapidly growing demand for rolled aluminum used in the design of a new generation of lighter, more fuel-efficient vehicles.
"The increased production at our Gottingen plant is part of our global expansion plan in the automotive sector," Mayr added.
Currently, Novelis produces automotive sheet in Europe at its Nachterstedt, Germany and Sierre, Switzerland facilities.
Additionally, the company has started the expansion of its Oswego, New York plant that will add 240,000t and the construction of a new plant in Changzhou, China that will have a capacity of 120,000t.
