Mining Supply Chain Planning Suite Was Nominated for an Innovative Mining Solution Award

Quintiq, a global leader in supply chain planning and Optimisation (SCP&O), announced today that its Mining Supply Chain Planning Suite has been nominated for an Innovative Mining Solution award at the 2013 Australian Mining Prospect Awards.

Quintiq has provided solutions to major mining operations focusing on their product stockpiles, rail and port supply lines. Delivering successful projects in "pit to port" planning and optimisation that the industry has historically struggled with and realising these benefits is the best confirmation of these efforts.

Paul Shepherd, director, Quintiq Australia and New Zealand said it was gratifying to be recognised by Australian Mining Magazine. "After establishing the Australian office in 2008, Quintiq began offering its software to the country's mining sector. The goal was to bring innovations in IT developed by working with other industries - such as manufacturing - to mining, allowing local industry achieve the benefits experienced by other industries using Quintiq."

The Quintiq Mining Suite is a single software platform that assists mining companies to navigate the infinite possibilities of both short and long term planning (and scheduling) across their entire supply chain. It allows mining companies to plan for profit by showing the ripple effects of planning decisions (including unplanned events), through an integrated planning environment.

"Mining supply chains typically are planned in silos - both horizontally across the mine/rail/port and vertically through long, mid, short and day of operations planning," Shepherd said. "Although each silo might do a reasonably good job in their plan - they could cause problems down the line. Quintiq breaks those silos and ensures that planners have full visibility and create plans based on a global optimum. In other words, the Quintiq Mining Suite optimises operations across silos for better planning.

"The Quintiq Mining Suite provides important tangible and commercial cost savings benefits to clients. As the mining industry is heavily commoditised, innovative technology that leads to large cost savings is highly sought after and seen as an immense competitive advantage," said Shepherd.

Shepherd added that the results extend to increased productivity, on time delivery and a significant reduction in overall operating costs. "Lower operating costs translate to improved profit, or in the case of a commodity price slump an improved baseline to help ensure mining operations better manage these troughs by maintaining commercial viability."

The 10th annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards were held in Sydney on the 31 October 2013. The awards were created to encourage, recognise and reward excellence in the Australian mining industry. The Innovative Mining Solution category recognises how a mining solution - a new technology, innovative processes or techniques - has led to real mining improvements.
