Lamborghini Use Maxwell Technologies' Ultracapacitors in Aventador Sports Car

Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini will incorporate Maxwell Technologies' ultracapacitors into its stop-start idle-elimination system equipped in Aventador sports cars, in a bid to reduce CO2 emitted by its vehicles by 35% by 2015.

According to the carmaker, the new sports car is expected to go into production in late 2012.

Designed by Maxwell's ultracapacitor distribution partner Dimac, the idle-elimination system, incorporating six-cell ultracapacitor module, will be delivered by the Continental Engineering Services unit of Continental.

Lamborghini claims that the incorporation of the new idle-elimination system enabled it to lessen the size and weight of the battery which will offer enhanced performance.

According to Maxwell, the stop-start idle-elimination systems will reduce fuel consumption and emissions by turning off vehicle's internal combustion engine as the vehicle decreases its speed and restarts the engine when the driver requires to move.
