Everlight Expects The Revenue Proportion of LED Backlights to Increase From 20% to 30%

LED packaging house Everlight Electronics expects the revenue proportion of LED backlights to increase from 20% in 2012 to 30% in 2013 and that for LED lighting from nearly 10% to 10-15%, according to the company

Everlight has received orders for LED backlight units (BLUs) used in LCD TVs and monitors from new Taiwan- and China-based clients in 2013, the company indicated. While mainstream LED BLUs use 0.8-1.0W LED chips, Everlight has finished development of EMC (epoxy molding compound) packaging technology for use in making LED BLUs consisting of 1.0-1.5W chips and expects to obtain certification in three months and begin production in the fourth quarter of 2013, the company said. EMC-packaged LED BLUs can reduce thickness of direct-type LED-backlit LCD TVs from 2.5cm to 1.5cm, Everlight noted.

Everlight has begun to produce 8.5-lumen LED BLUs for use in smartphones and has obtained orders from China-, Taiwan- and South Korea-based vendors, with shipments expected to significantly increase in the second half of 2013.

For LED lighting, Everlight has set up a subsidiary in China for developing and marketing products in the market.

Everlight has a total packaging capacity of 2.5 billion LED chips in Taiwan and China, with 600 million chips specifically for LED lighting, the company said. Expecting large growth in LED lighting demand, Everlight will expand packaging capacity for lighting by 20% in the second half of 2013.
