Nissan has announced that it will produce Qashqai crossover with semi-autonomous driving technology at its Sunderland plant in the UK.
This will be the first car from Nissan that will feature partial self-driving technology.
The semi-autonomous driving technology will allow for driving in motorway or dual carriageway without driver control.
It was announced at the Geneva Motor Show 2016 and it will be mass produced at its Sunderland plant in the UK.
The car will be first launched in Europe in 2017.
Qashqai will be equipped with Nissan's Piloted Drive 1.0 and it will allow the vehicle to be driven on single lane roads with heavy traffic conditions.
The company says that the vehicle has multiple sensors and it has undergone several thousands of hours of testing to make sure that the vehicle understands its surroundings precisely.
Until now, lane driving technology has only been seen in high-end luxury cars such as BMW, Audi and Tesla cars. The company plans to launch several semi-autonomous vehicles in the coming four years.
By the end of the decade, the company aims to bring out 'inner-city' self-driving cars which will drive vehicles on busy roads and intersections.
Nissan Europe, chairman, Paul Willcox said: "It's a car people love. It's a car people trust."
"It pioneered the crossover boom, and now it will spearhead Nissan's move towards launching a range of vehicles with autonomous drive capabilities from 2017.
"Yet again, we are taking technology normally found in premium cars and making it accessible to millions of motorists."
He continued: "The introduction of Piloted Drive technologies will be an evolution, not a revolution as the building blocks for this are already in place in many of our cars today through our Safety Shield Technology."
"With the driver in control, we want to remove the pain-points of being behind the wheel, like navigating heavy traffic, to put the excitement back into driving,"
