OSJL Recalls Mediterranean Olives as They May Not Have Been Handled Properly

American chain of discount stores Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) is voluntarily recalling Mediterranean Olives as they may not have been handled properly to prevent the production of a toxin that causes botulism.

The product is labeled "Keep Refrigerated". However, it was sold at room temperature, making it susceptible to contamination with Clostridium botulinum, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.

The product associated with the recall is Bel Frantoio Calcidica Sweet, packaged in 34oz plastic containers. It was sold in OSJL stores across New York and throughout the Northeast including, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.

The recalled product sold elsewhere, properly refrigerated, is safe for consumption. No illnesses have been reported associated with the recall.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
