Taipei, Dec. 24, 2012 (CENS)--Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. estimates its multimedia-on-demand (MOD) subscribers will increase to 1.4 million next year after cutting the planned 1.5 million down to 1.3 million for this year, according to company president, Y.S. Lee.
Lee said the company has adjusted strategy to emphasize quality of customer instead of quantity of customer for its MOD operation.
The company, which is currently Taiwan’s No.1 telecom provider by revenue, originally planned to take advantage of its podcasting of the 2012 London Olympic Games to achieve the ambitious goal. However, the increase rate of its MOD customer has slowed down after the Games.
Lee pointed out that the company will continue stressing multi content and high definition of its MOD service next year.
Chunghwa has recently signed an agreement to provide its MOD49 channel on NexTV’s general TV station after providing its channel 56 on NexTV’s news channel last year.
To promote its MOD channels, the company has entered into cooperation with Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. by subsidizing Hon Hai’s 60-inch LCD TVs. So far, the company has sold 2,500 of the TVs.
