Japanese auto maker Toyota has unveiled the new i-ROAD at the Geneva Motor Show that is being held in Switzerland during 05-17 March 2013.
The vehicle is powered by two 2kW motors mounted in the front wheels that use a lithium-ion battery and offers a range of 50km.
Three-wheeled i-ROAD comes with the Active Lean technology system that uses a lean actuator and gearing mounted above the front suspension fixed to the left and right front wheels through a yoke.
Based on steering angle, gyro-sensor and vehicle speed information, an engine control unit (ECU) calculates the required degree of lean for the system to automatically move the wheels up and down in opposite directions to neutralize the centrifugal force of cornering.
The actuator is claimed to automatically compensate for changes in the road to keep the body level and operates the vehicle while driving in a straight line over stepped surfaces.
According to the company, the battery of the vehicle can be fully recharged from a domestic power supply in three hours and the minimum turning circle offered by the i-ROAD is three meters.
