German automaker Daimler is set invest EUR190m in its Mercedes-Benz plant in Vitoria, Spain, for the production of medium-size vans.
The production is expected to start in 2014. The company will primarily use the amount in the modernization and reorganization of the plant's body shop, paint shop, and assembly units. It will also optimize the plant's logistics.
Mercedes-Benz Vans head Volker Mornhinweg said that with the investment of approximately EUR190m, the company is strengthening its Vitoria facility.
"At the same time we are emphasizing the importance of the second-largest van plant in our global production network," Mornhinweg added.
Currently, the Vitoria plant produces Viano and Vito models. It has an annual production of 75,000 vans.
Earlier in December 2013, Daimler Trucks Asia, a subsidiary of Daimler, outlined plans to invest EUR300m in the international sales and production structures in the period 2014-2018.
