BAE Systems has secured a contract to supply its hybridrive propulsion system, HDS300 system for the US-based bus manufacturer New Flyer.
The HDS300 hybridrive propulsion system will be used to power a fleet of new 60ft low-floor rapid transit buses to be delivered to Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) in San Jose, California, US.
The contract awarded to New Flyer includes a firm order for 29 articulated hybrid buses with an option for about 20 additional buses in the future.
BAE Systems HybriDrive Solutions vice president and general manager Steve Trichka said, "The HDS300 system is derived from the same product line that powers 40-foot buses, so transit authorities can now benefit from the commonality of HybriDrive propulsion systems across all types of hybrid vehicles in their fleets."
The hybridrive propulsion systems will be manufactured at BAE Systems' Endicott, New York facility and their delivery is scheduled to start in 2014.
BAE Systems expects that the delivery of the system will support its position as the automotive technology provider in the industry.
