The OPEN Alliance (One-Pair EtherNet) Special Interest Group (SIG) has released its automotive Ethernet specifications and tools to promote wider adoption of automotive Ethernet.
The open access of specifications is part of the alliance's strategy to establish single pair Ethernet as the connectivity technology for the connected car.
With this move, OPEN Alliance SIG intends to accelerate wide-scale implementation of technology in the automotive segment.
The specifications are prepared based on outcome of numerous technical committees focused on driving interoperability, compliance and testing requirements.
OPEN Alliance SIG chairperson and General Motors' architect - electronics hardware global lead Natalie Wienckowski said: "The automotive industry is experiencing one of its most transformative periods in history and it's all about connectivity.
"Based on its high bandwidth, price-performance, ubiquity and inherent network security features, use of automotive Ethernet is on a significant trajectory.
Since its inception in 2011, the alliance has attracted interests from more than 250 automakers, tier one suppliers and technology companies.
