American beer distributor Monarch Beverage has filed a complaint against the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission over the supply of liquor to bars, restaurants and stores.
The complaint alleges that a state law that prohibits alcohol wholesalers from supplying both beer and liquor does not meet the rules of the US Constitution.
According to the company, the state politicians have given licenses for liquor, while county officials handled those for beer, following the prohibition.
Monarch Beverage was quoted by the Post - Tribune as saying, "The General Assembly has never provided an official explanation for why it chose to prohibit beer wholesalers from holding a liquor permit.
"The available evidence, however, suggests that this restriction was enacted to further a post-Prohibition patronage system that operated to the benefit of state and local politicians."
Monarch Beverage operates as a beer and wine distributor in Indiana. It also specializes in promotional and apparel items. The company serves bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and grocery stores.
