Japanese carmaker Nissan has formed a joint venture (JV) with the US based Car Charging Group (CCGI) to increase the availability of the electric vehicle (EV) charging and expand consumer awareness of the electric car market.
Both the companies will jointly be responsible for the installation of the EV chargers in the major markets of the US that is expected to complete by the end of 2013.
Primarily, the JV aims to deploy the 48 units of the Nissan-branded quick chargers in California and on the East Coast.
Nissan EV Infrastructure director Brendan Jones said, "With more than 25,000 Nissan LEAFs already on U.S. roads, bolstering infrastructure further accelerates the adoption curve as it provides range confidence and promotes additional zero-emissions driving."
CarCharging CEO Michael Farkas said, "Through our partnership with Nissan, we are eager to expand the EV market by educating consumers who don't live in single-family homes and may not be aware of public EV charging services available today."
Under the JV, the companies will educate consumers about how the EV charging infrastructure improves the adoption and usage of electric cars.
Additionally, CarCharging is developing a mobile application that offers directions and access capability to all CarCharging EV charging stations that include ChargePoint and Nissan's quick chargers and also provide evCharge card to the EV driver.
