German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has expanded its hybrid vehicle portfolio with the addition of three new S-Class hybrid cars that are scheduled to launch in 2014.
The new hybrid vehicles included the S 400 hybrid, s 300 BlueTEC hybrid and s 500 plug-in hybrid, all of them will come with similar powertrains that allows separation of combustion engine from the electric motor.
S 500 plug-in hybrid is powered by a combustion engine that generates power output of 245kW coupled to 80kW electric motor that jointly deliver torque of 480Nm, while offering fuel consumption of 3L/100km and CO2 emissions of 69g/km.
According to the company, the new S 500 plug-in hybrid offers travel range of about 30km on electric power, attains top speed of 250km/h and acceleration of 0-100km/h in 5.5sec.
The new S 400 Hybrid is equipped with petrol engine that delivers 306hp output and is connected to an electric motor giving an output of 27hp, while using 6.3L/100km in the NEDC cycle and offering CO2 emissions of 147g/km.
A 2.2L four-cylinder diesel engine generating an output of 204 hp powers the S 300 BlueTEC hybrid vehicle combined with the 27 hp electric motor to offer mileage of 4.4L/100km, while letting out CO2 emissions of 115g/km.
