Australian iron ore miner Atlas Iron has announced that it shipped a record 2.73 million wet metric tons of iron ore in the quarter ended on March 31, increasing by 1.1 percent compared to the previous quarter, despite inclement weather impacts. The company is on track to meet full-year production guidance for the financial year 2013-2014 of 10.2-10.7 million mt shipped, with current expectation of an outcome in the upper half of the range.
Atlas managing director Ken Brinsden said the company had exceeded the shipment record set in the previous quarter. As a result, Atlas has shipped more ore in the nine months to March 2014 than it did throughout the previous financial year.
"With Atlas' Wodgina and Abydos mines performing consistently, we remain confident of meeting our production guidance for the year," Mr. Brinsden said.
