Davis-Standard announced that it will unleash a high-speed unwind during the K 2016 plastics and rubber trade fair, which will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Engineered for splice speeds up to 800mts per minute (2,600 fpm), the unwind caters to sensitive, thin webs.
According to the US-based company, it has a pneumatic splice-unit control that provides improved processing and functionality.
It also says that the unwind is engineered uniquely for extrusion coating applications that involve polyethylene films (PE films) and aluminum foil.
A key advantage of the unwind is its capability of rolling diameters in the range of 300-1000mm.
The company claims that it can roll a maximum diameter of 800mm for aluminum foil while the maximum roll weight capability it says is 1800kgs.
It also says that the unwind is suitable for 30 to 100 µm PE films as well as 6 to 20 µm aluminum foil webs.
The unwind is said to comprise dual-position, shaftless, phantom-axis turret design as per the company.
This design has several advantages as per Davis-Standard which includes driven idler rolls on the turret, inverter controlled turret drive, lightweight carbon fiber knife holder, direct spindle drive, automatic edge guide control and cross-cut knives.
Davis-Standard, headquartered in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, is a global provider of design and manufacturing dealing with high-performance plastics and rubber processing equipment.
It is claimed to be one of the few companies that provide a high-speed extruder for demanding processes where both energy rates and rates have a significant impact on profitability.
Some of the packaging products manufactured by Davis-Standard include foam, extrusion coating, cast film, blown film and sheet.
