US-based Merrell Food Group, along with its manufacturing partner Rise’n Roll Specialties, is recalling ‘Crunch’N Nutter Mixed Nut’ candy due to presence of undeclared peanut allergen.
The company has issued allergy alert on the product.
The recall, which will affect the product with a sell by date of 1 June 2014 or before, was initiated during an FDA inspection. Subsequent investigation identified that the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging process.
People who are allergic or sensitive to peanuts may face the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The candy, which was distributed to distributers in Wisconsin and New Jersey, comes in 4oz green and yellow plastic bag bags labeled Crunch'N Nutter Mixed Nut with the UPC#861522000042.
The company will label the current product to declare peanuts. The product is no longer manufactured with peanuts as of 15 January 2014.
However, no illnesses have been reported to date related to this product.
