Sterlite Copper has commenced operation of safety check pointsoffices over a stretch of 750 kilometers between Namakkalin TamilnaduandJhalki in the Bijapur district of Karnataka, to ensure safety of the trucks that pass through this area carrying copper anodes to Silvassa and finished products to Indore and Jaipur.
In a function held recently at Rasipuram, Mr K Nallathambi president of Tamil Nadu State Lorry Owners' Association inaugurated the first safety point at Rasipuram in the presence of Mr PP Markhs head Logistics, Sterlite Copper. The aim of the initiative is to strengthen the tracking and safety system of each vehicle which passes the hijack prone stretch of 750 kilometers.
Mr PP Markhs said that "Eight safety points have been placed between Namakkal and Jhalki which covers 750 kilometers. A team will be present at all the safety points on a 247 basis to check whether the vehicles carrying the anodes report at all the safety points. If any problem arises between two check points, the team present in the check points will move towards each other to check the whereabouts of the vehicle. The initiative was taken by Sterlite in addition to placing of GPS devices, in order to reduce the response time in case of any untoward incidents in this stretch.”
