UK-based food company Petrow Food Group has opened an 80,000ft2 factory and warehouse facility in Haverhill, Sufflok.
The company has invested more than £4m to build the facility in a 7.2 acre site which was originally built for food ingredients. The company has completed the construction and announced the factory's official opening.
The new factory, which now features upgraded processing and screening facilities, will process dried fruit, coconut, date and nut products, to cater to the growing clientele in the UK and international terrains.
Petrow Food Group sales and procurement director Graham Davenport said: "The new group combines PFI's leading know-how in chopping, nibbing, pasting and slicing dried fruit with Quality Kernels' expertise in processing and roasting of a full range of nuts and seeds in a peanut free environment."
"This is in addition to the Group's trading activities of these products, therefore the Petrow Food Group can now offer the complete package of both the trading and processing of nuts, seeds, coconuts, dates and dried fruit."
Petrow Food Group will continue with its blending and packaging processes at the Perivale site in West London, where it has a separate unit to process groundnuts.
Over the course of the year, all of the coconut and a part of the date processing will shift to the new site in Haverhill.
The UK-based company undertakes several processes related to dry fruits such as slicing, dicing, pasting, and also offers contract packing and blending. It supplies to food industry clients in the UK and across the globe. The company undertakes all the processing and packaging in London.
The move follows the company's rebranding exercise which began after the acquisition of Quality Kernels. Following the takeover, the company rebranded itself to Petrow Food Group, which includes businesses Petrow Food Industries (PFI) and Quality Kernels Ltd.
Petrow Food Group acquired nut processing company Quality Kernels in 2013. The takeover helped the company make new additions to its portfolio and offer a complete package to customers beginning with trading and processing coconut, dates and dried fruit, as well as trading and processing nuts and seeds.
