Arla Food Ingredients, a subsidiary of Swedish-Danish cooperative Arla Foods, has introduced new dry blend lactose, which will help infant formula manufacturers to boost output and lower costs.
The new lactose can be introduced to the manufacturing process as heat treatment and drying takes place, when it can simply be combined with the spray-dried wet blend ingredients and packaged, the company claims.
The dry blend lactose is expected to accelerate manufacturing capacity by up to 25% on existing production lines.
Arla Foods Ingredients Permeate & Lactose Business sales director Luis Cubel said that the company's dry blend lactose makes it possible for infant formula producers to increase output and reduce costs without compromising food safety.
"In addition, it is a CO2-neutral way to achieve this, ensuring companies can maintain their sustainability credentials while boosting their bottom line," added Cubel.
