Acadian Fine Foods, an establishment based in Louisiana, is recalling approximately 17,037 pounds of pork stew and chicken stew products as they contain whey and soy which are not mentioned on the product label.
According to the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the problem was identified by FSIS during a routine label review
Whey and soy are sub-ingredients that have been used in the chicken base used to make the product. The company had changed chicken bases and the labels did not feature the change in ingredients, the agency said.
The products being recalled include 12oz. single-serve bowls of 'Savoie's Cajun Singles Louisiana Pork Stew' with establishment number 'Est. 13587' inside the USDA mark of inspection and 'Use By' dates from 24 May 2013 through 21 March 2014. The products were produced between 24 May 2012 and 21 March 2013.
The recall also includes 12oz. single-serve bowls of 'Savoie's Cajun Singles Louisiana Chicken Stew' with the establishment number 'P-13587' inside the USDA mark of inspection and 'Use By' dates from 6 June 2013 through 25 February 2014. The products were produced between 6 June 2012 and 25 February 2013.
These products were distributed for retail sale in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
FSIS and the company have received no reports of reactions associated with consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction are advised to contact a health care provider.
This recall has been classified as Class I, which indicates a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
