Opel Has Added a New Range Economical Engine Line to Its Meriva

German automobile manufacturer Opel has added a new range economical engine line to its Meriva, which was unveiled in January 2014

The new vehicle is available in new ranges including the gasoline, LPG and diesel powered engines.

Opel Meriva will be powered by the new 1.6L CDTI engine available in three output levels including 100kW/136hp, 81kW/110hp, as well as the new 70kW/95hp option.

The new engine unit, also known as the whisper-diesel engine, is said to offer economical fuel consumption and run smoothly, while offering low noise.

The new 1.6 CDTI engine, which features Start/Stop as standard and is available with a low-friction six-speed manual transmission will replace Opel's previous generation 1.3L diesel powertrain that offered similar output.

Whisper-diesel version of the engine is said to offer maximum torque from 100Nm to 280Nm as well as reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

According to the company, the turbo diesel engine consumes 4L of diesel per 100 km in the combined cycle and emits 105g/km CO2, four grams less compared to its predecessor.

With the new entry-level engine, the company will make the diesel-powered Meriva available for €19,150.

Opel Meriva 1.6 CDTI is also said to be compliant with the Euro 6 emission standards and achieve reduction in nitrogen oxide through Lean NOx Technology (LNT), which has a system catalyst to store the nitrogen oxide.
