Sequel Naturals Recall of Its Natural Health Product

Sequel Naturals has initiated a voluntary recall of its natural health product, Vega One French Vanilla, after testing conducted by Health Canada identified the presence of bacteria in the product.

The products associated with the recall include three lots of Vega One French Vanilla available in 414g, 827g and 37.6g bearing lot numbers 42245900, 42245800 and 2308000 respectively, with Expiry Date July 2014.

The recalled product is sold in various pharmacies, natural health stores and grocery stores across Canada.

This recall has been initiated after Health Canada identified the presence of Klebsiella species (K. oxytoca), Citrobacter braakii, Cronobacter sakazakii group, Enterobacter cloacae complex, Acinetobacter species (A. baumannii and A. haemolyticus) and Leclercia adecarboxylata, during a test conducted.

Sequel Naturals is requesting the retailers to immediately stop sale of the recalled products and return them to the company. Health Canada is monitoring the recall.

Consumption of products contaminated with K. oxytoca may cause infection of the lower intestine, causing cramps and watery, bloody diarrhea. It may also cause lung infections and urinary tract infections.
