The FSA Is Warning Dairy Farmers Not to Be Tempted to Add Milk From Other Sources Into It

The FSA is warning dairy farmers not to be tempted to add milk from other sources into their own supply. This is illegal, could potentially introduce contaminants and ultimately comprises the integrity of the milk supply.

This comes as an investigation is underway into reports of illegal smuggling of milk into Northern Ireland.

Maria Jennings, Director FSA in Northern Ireland, said: 'Illegal milk movements threaten the safety and traceability of milk and milk products processed in Northern Ireland. We fully support the advice issued by the dairy industry - that farmers in Northern Ireland should not become involved in this illegal practice.

'Any information or evidence brought to the attention of the FSA or DARD will be fully investigated and where evidence of malpractice is found, enforcement action will be taken against those involved and affected milk and milk products will be removed from the food chain.'

The FSA is urging any farmer who is offered milk to contact their local DARD dairy inspector or veterinary officer.
