New research sheds light on changes occurring to traditional business intelligence as it intersects with mobile and social collaboration.
Ventana Research has released its latest Benchmark Research, Next Generation Business Intelligence. Ventana Research commenced this research to gain insight into organization's plans to use next generation business intelligence, future plans for doing so and to uncover best practices in managing these new important sources of analytics and metrics.
These new technologies will expand the range of BI capabilities and alter the methods in which they're obtained, analyzed and used. The new research found that most companies recognize this, showing strong interest in adopting next generation capabilities. Currently only one-third indicated they have already implemented new mobile BI capabilities but 69 percent cited plans to adopt in the next 12 months. This was followed closely by 64 percent indicating the use of or plans to use collaborative intelligence. The motivation for deploying such complex capabilities is varied. In executive level participants, 60 percent cited improved customer satisfaction as the key motivator, while 57 percent of management citing performance related initiatives and 58 percent of individual contributors indicating the key motivation is increased productivity.
Ultimately, the research highlights key changes occurring in a new generation of business users. As companies evolve, employees will be likely to demand more intuitive methods of accessing information. It's not surprising in light of this that usability is the most important issue for nearly two-thirds of participants. Participants also cited that the preferred method of deploying next generation BI was through cloud-based software, signifying yet another key generational change.
"Next Generation BI is still evolving but it is going to change the way businesses operate, plan, take actions and make decisions. Our research will provide companies with an advantage when selecting and implementing this new technology" said Tony Cosentino, VP & Research Director of Ventana Research. "The research identified challenges, best practices and methods for which next generation BI can be best utilized."
Key highlights from the research will be presented at the Ventana Research Technology Innovation Summit on November 8, 2012. To find out more or register for the summit. Ventana Research will also expand on the key findings of this benchmark research during a live webinar on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10 am PT.
