Chrysler Thinks of FIAT 500e Electric Cars in US

American automaker Chrysler Group has issued a voluntary recall for 4,141 units of its Fiat 500e electric cars in the US due to a defect in the power inverter module.

All the recalled units are said to be manufactured from 24 September 2012 to 04 April 2014 and have been sold in the US.

Under the recall, the Chrysler Group will replace the power inverter module (PIM), which prevents coolant seepage that may cause power loss while driving.

According to the company, the PIM alters electric current to accommodate battery-powered propulsion.

The recall followed a routine warranty data review, during which Chrysler Group engineers discovered a PIM defect that may lead to seepage of coolant onto electrical components, causing a short-circuit leading to power loss.

Chrysler Group has claimed to be aware of five such incidents, while the Company is unaware of any related injuries or accidents.
