Uber Hiring Engineers to Develop Self-Driving Technology

Taxi hailing service is reportedly hiring mechanical engineers and software engineers to work on sensors and vehicle controls, hinting the company’s ambition to venture into self-driving technology.

According to reports, the positions are open at the company's Advanced Technologies Center in Pittsburgh, which the company created in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University.

A total of nineteen open positions have been advertised, with some seeking multiple workers, which reflects the company's inclination towards autonomous driving systems.

However, it is not known if the company is planning to build its own self driving car, or it's planning to develop technology which will be used cars.

For Uber, the development of a self-driving car is not likely to happen in near future as the technology is expensive and there are plenty of regulatory and safety issues related to the technology, reported PC World .

The taxi hailing service also faces tough competition from automakers like Daimler, BMW, Nissan and tech titans including Google who have already started testing their autonomous vehicles.
