Network provider Interoute has unveiled a 100 gigabit ethernet(GbE)service to enable its customers to increase their bandwidth.

The company runs a 60,000km network of lit fibre across Europe, connecting cities from London to Moscow, and enabling both enterprise-level businesses and service providers to take advantage of its technology.

Interoute was already using Infinera DTN technology, which is its flagship reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer(ROADM),enabling wavelengths carrying data to travel over fibre but remain optical, rather than converting to electronic and back again, which in turn speeds up the journey time of the data.

Infinera has updated its technology within Interoute's network so the company can now offer the 100GbE connection to its customers to increase their bandwidth and cut costs, compared with the individual 10Gbps lines it claims businesses have been using to raise capacity.

Matthew Finnie,CTO at Interoute, said the new technology"protects our investment for the future services that we need to provide our customers to stay competitive",due to the ability to upgrade speeds at relatively short notice.

"Interoute's network is used by major incumbents and service providers throughout Europe,"said Chris Champion,vice-president of sales at Infinera for the EMEA region.

"As one of Infinera's leading customers worldwide,we are excited to play a key part in increasing capacity on Interoute's network and working closely with Interoute to grow its network footprint,"he added.
