German automotive firm Daimler is planning to invest about €500m in a new engine production facility in Poland.
The facility, which will be situated in Jawor, around 70km west of Wroclaw, will be Mercedes-Benz Cars' first in Poland.
The plant will manufacture four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars.
Daimler said the location decision and projects' implementation are subject to various factors such as investment conditions, grant of state support for the investment in Jawor.
Production at the site is expected to start in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz Cars member of the divisional board for production and supply chain management Markus Sch?fer said: "The planned establishment of a new engine plant in Poland is a further step in our global growth strategy.
"Capacity expansion in Eastern Europe reflects the increasingly international orientation of our powertrain production compound.This will lead to more flexibility and efficiency in our worldwide production network."
The powertrain production will be managed at the lead plant in Untertürkheim. Future employees at the Polish engine facility will receive training to handle the production..
At present, Daimler has several production facilities located in Stuttgart, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Untertürkheim, K?lleda, Sindelfingen and Rastatt in Germany and at various other locations across the world.
Speaking about Daimler's investment, Poland Economy Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said: "The planned construction of a new engine plant in Poland by Daimler AG is evidence of the good state of our economy.
"We are open for international investment and will systematically implement our plan for sustainable development so that we are attractive for further investors."
