Sanofi Has Launched Epinephrine Auto-Injector

Sanofi has launched epinephrine auto-injector, designed for use in patients with extreme allergic reactions, in the US.

Auvi-Q (epinephrine injection), which the company claims is the first-and-only epinephrine auto-injector with audio and visual cues, features an automatic retractable needle mechanism to help prevent accidental needle sticks.

Auvi-Q, which is available in Auvi-Q 0.3mg and Auvi-Q 0.15mg dosages strengths, uses an electronic voice to guide users through the five-second injection into the thigh and alert light to signal when the injection is complete, claims Sanofi.

Sanofi North America pharmaceuticals president Anne Whitaker said, "The availability of Auvi-Q represents an important step forward in our continued innovation to meet the needs of people at risk for anaphylaxis and their caregivers."

Sanofi said it has licensed the North America commercialization rights to Auvi-Q from specialty pharmaceutical company Intelliject who develops next generation of drug/device combination products.
