Coca-Cola Adopts On-Pack Recycling Label

Beverages company Coca-Cola is adopting the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC’s) On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL), in a bid to lessen the proportion of plastic drinks bottles going to landfill.

Through the OPRL system, Coke will give consumers standardized information on which packaging materials local authorities collect for recycling.

Though 90% of councils collect plastic bottles at the kerbside, consumers are said to be recycling only about half of plastic bottles.

The relevant OPRL logo will appear initially on 500ml bottles of Coca-Cola, Coke Zero and Diet Coke sold in UK, and will be gradually introduced over time across other products and packs made by CCE.
