US building component group Jeld-Wen is to close down the plant in Christiansburg belonging to Craftmaster by 31 January 2014. The total of 109 employees affected by the measure are to be offered jobs in other Jeld-Wen locations. Within a radius of 160km, the company operates two plants in North Wilkesboro and Lexington, both North Carolina. Jeld-Wen wants to transfer the door production, which until now has been located in Christiansburg, to larger locations in order to achieve greater efficiency. The company had already announced that it would be closing down the plant soon after the takeover of Craftmaster, but had reversed this decision again a short time afterwards. Craftmaster operates four further production locations in Towanda (Pennsylvania), Ozark (Alabama), Garland (Texas) and Plainfield (Illinois).
