UK based construction service provider Balfour Beatty has been awarded £80m contract to construct the National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC) in Coventry for the University of Warwick, England.
The facility will include art teaching, design and engineering facilities, research and development facilities which will be centered around collaborative workspaces.
The construction will be done on the University of Warwick site, and will include a four-storey 'L' shaped building.
According to Balfour Beatty, the NAIC is being funded through collaboration between Tata Motors European Technical Centre, Jaguar Land Rover, WMG and the Government's UK Research Partnership Investment Fund (UKRPIF).
It is being administered by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
The NAIC will have its focus on developing expertise in automotive research and development, and will be home to 1,000 technologists, academics, designers, students and engineers, who will collaborate to work towards breakthrough vehicle technology.
Warwick Manufacturing Group Chairman Professor Lord Bhattacharyya said: "The National Automotive Innovation Centre will link people, research and world-leading infrastructure to create and develop novel technologies. NAIC will be an 'engine' for economic growth, with wide economic benefit, and sustained growth from the creation of world-leading technologies.
"Building will commence soon and through Balfour Beatty the construction of such a significant facility will bring equally significant economic and employment benefits to the local construction sector."
