Taiwan-based LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Genesis Photonics has obtained orders from the largest Russia-based LED packager and lighting maker, with monthly shipments exceeding one million LED chips, while Taiwan-based LED packaging houses Edison Opto and Everlight Electronics have been tapping the India market, according to the companies.
Genesis plans to participate in an exhibition to take place in Russia in 2013 and stands a chance of exporting LED chips to markets in Eastern Europe through the Russia-based client, the company indicated. In addition, Genesis has tapped the Brazil market and expects to sell LED chips for use in LED lighting and LCD TV backlight units sold in the North America market through cooperation with LED packaging houses in Brazil, the company pointed out.
Edison has focused sales promotions on emerging markets, with India, Turkey and Russia being the three major targets accounting for 10-15% of its revenues, the company noted. The revenue proportion for emerging markets is expected to increase in 2013, especially revenues from India, Edison indicated. The Turkey market is important due to zero customs tariffs for exports from the country to Europe and the Middle East, Edison pointed out.
Everlight has set up an office in India for marketing infrared and LED lighting products, the company noted. Although price competition is intense in the India market, Everlight aims to increase sales volumes to offset the impact of low prices, the company indicated.
