German automotive major BMW has hinted on the possibility of another ‘i’ electric car variants when it comes to taking a call on new models.
This has been informed by Harald Krueger while interacting with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
Though he remain tightlipped about such models, Krueger said: "Between the i3 and the i8, there is space if you look at it from the number point of view."
He admitted that the automobile major has been communicating with major technology firms, such as Apple, for the development of connected cars.
BMW and Apple are said to be keen on forging an alliance after a visit by executives of the latter to the carmaker's headquarters.
Besides, Apple CEO Tim Cook also paid BMW's headquarters a visit last year, while senior officials toured the Leipzig unit to learn how it makes i3 electric car.
However, the dialogue reportedly went inconclusive as Apple wanted to come up with a car of its own.
The dialogue ended without conclusion because Apple appears to want to explore developing a passenger car on its own, one of the sources said.
"Apple executives were impressed with the fact that we abandoned traditional approaches to car making and started afresh. It chimed with the way they do things too," a senior BMW source told Reuters.
While BMW denied holding any talks with Apple for developing a passenger car, Apple chose not to comment on the matter.
