Nestle has recalled pizza sold under its Wagner and Buitoni brands in a number of European markets and Canada after consumers found metal pieces in a product.
The Swiss food giant said today (11 December) two shoppers in Germany had found metal in the Backfrische pizza.
Nestle has recalled all the pizza made for the two brands in its German factory between June and November.
Wagner pizza on sale in Germany, Austria and the Benelux countries has been pulled. Nestle has also recalled pizza sold under the Buitoni brand in France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Canada.
"We have not received any other similar complaints but to avoid any risk whatsoever to our consumers we have decided to recall the entire production of these two pizza varieties made in our German factory between June and November 2012," Nestle said.
In Germany, Austria and the Benelux countries the pizzas being recalled have best-before dates between March and November 2013.
In Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland and Canada the pizzas being recalled have best-before dates between June and November 2013.
Wagner and Buitoni voluntary pizza recall

As a precautionary measure, we voluntarily recalled two varieties of pizza sold under the Wagner brand in Germany, Austria and the Benelux countries, and under the Buitoni brand in Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland and Canada.
All other varieties of Wagner and Buitoni pizza are perfectly safe for consumption.

We recalled the product batches after two consumers in Germany found a small piece of metal in the Backfrische pizza. We have not received any other similar complaints but to avoid any risk whatsoever to our consumers we have decided to recall the entire production of these two pizza varieties made in our German factory between June and November 2012.
The safety and quality of our products are a non-negotiable priority for the company. We sincerely apologise to our consumers and customers for any inconvenience caused by this voluntary recall.
