Heavy-duty transit bus manufacturer New Flyer has secured a bus supply contract from the Golden Empire Transit District (GET) in the US and Canada.
Under the deal, the manufacturer will supply 15 units of the Xcelsior 40ft heavy duty buses, which are powered by the compressed natural gas.
The buses are expected to commence production in the fourth quarter of 2013 at New Flyer of America's St. Cloud, Minnesota manufacturing facility and are scheduled to be delivered by the first quarter of 2014.
New Flyer president and CEO Paul Soubry said, "We're also excited about delivering our Xcelsior model to them for the first time as this bus is aligned with GET's mission statement delivering an accessible, reliable transit."
During 2006-2012, New Flyer has manufactured and delivered 70 units of the 40ft CNG buses for GET Transit, which currently operates a fleet of 88 heavy duty buses.
In January 2013, the manufacturer had won a contract to deliver about 165 Xcelsior busses to the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System in the US.
