French electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Mia-Electric is planning to launch its EVs in the UK market in summer 2013.
Current official British Mia-Electric importer, Venture Automotive Holdings will perform the operations under the name Mia-Electric UK, following the launch.
Venture Automotive Holdings MD Paul Evans said, "There is a very real and practical place for EVs in the UK vehicle market."
The manufacturer will launch its range of EVs including the three seater called the Mia, a four seater car known as the Mia L, as well as two commercial vehicles known as the Mia U and Mia BlueStar special edition, all of which are manufactured at the former Heuliez factory in Cerizay, France.
Each of the vehicles are driven by two Lithium Ion Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries that generate an output of 12 kW, providing a travel distance of about 74miles and can be recharged completely in 5hrs and are based on the same chassis.
Mia-Electric's vehicles are claimed to be designed for the city and feature central driving position, sliding doors, a cut-out floor and roof, as well as ABS body panels.
The company is planning to initially target business drivers and fleet operators, depending on the vehicle's economic and environmental advantages in urban and return-to-base area.
The introduction of the EVs into the UK market will coincide with revision to the London Congestion Charge in July 2013, under which vehicles emitting below 75g/km CO2 will be kept out from the charge.
