Volvo Car group has added a third shift at its Torslanda plant in Sweden, which has created 1,500 new jobs in the plant.

The third shift will operate at night and will be responsible for the production of XC90 seven-seater vehicle.

The company has presently received 30,000 pre-orders for the car and Volvo expects to produce around 50,000 new XC90s this year, which will be exported to the US and China, where demand for the vehicle is high.

Volvo also said that the new XC90 is the first car to embrace Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) which is likely to become the base of next generation Volvo models.
