German carmaker Audi has unveiled the new A3 g-tron sportback ahead of its debut at the upcoming 2013 Geneva Motor Show to be held in Switzerland during 07-17 March 2013.
The new sportback can be run either by CO2-neutral fuel Audi e-gas or regular compressed natural gas (CNG), and is powered by a 1.4L TFSI petrol engine that generates an output of 110hp and 200Nm of torque.
Aimed at achieving a top speed of 190 km/h, the new five-door car sprints from 0-100km/h in eleven seconds and offers a range of 900km using petrol engine, while a 400km range on CNG.
The powertrain comprises two gas tanks, to store Audi's e-gas or regular CNG, in addition to a regular internal combustion engine.
An electronic pressure regulator is aimed at boosting the efficiency of the vehicle when operated on gas, which allows low-pressure gas to be combusted during low-speed driving, while enabling it to flow at high pressure to offer enhanced performance as per the requirement.
Audi has developed A3 g-tron as part of its wider project involving its e-gas facility in Werlte that produces gas through the electrolysis of water.
