Nokia Unveiled Lumia Smartphone with Low-Light Camera Features and Social Network Apps

Nokia has unveiled its first Lumia smartphone with a metal cover, low-light camera features and new social network apps.

But the new model failed to impress investors, who sent the company's stock down more than 5 per cent.

The features on the Lumia 925 - slimmer and lighter that the flagship Lumia 920 - will be soon available in the full Lumia Windows 8 range, Nokia said.

They include an 8.7 megapixel camera that can take photos in low light conditions and snaps 10 images at once.

It enables sharing on various social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Tumblr, Flickr and Instagram.

Nokia says the new model will have a price tag of about 470 euros ($614) before subsidies or taxes. It will go on sale next month in China and Europe, and later in the US by T-Mobile. Australian availability is unknown at this time.

Earlier, research firm Gartner said Nokia's mobile phone share had dropped 4.9 percentage points in the first quarter of 2013, mainly due to a steep decline in feature phone sales.

It said its smartphone sales suffered even more, dropping it into 10th place from 8th in the previous quarter.

Nokia's share price closed down more than 5 per cent at 2.79 euros on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.
