General Motors owned British automaker Vauxhall Motors is recalling 220,000 units of its Zafira B mid-sized cars after fire-related incidents were reported.
The incidents were reported through social media where affected users took to Twitter to posts pictures showing flames coming from under their bonnets.
An affected owner also created a Facebook group which gained around 6,000 members and highlighted around 133 fire-related cases.
Vauxhall said that it has been investigating Zafira B models after the reports of fires in the area of the heating and ventilation system, and said that it has taken this issue very seriously.
Vauxhall Chairman Rory Harvey sent out a video message regarding the action saying that Vauxhall has already undertaken measures and explains the customer action which will include an inspection of the vehicle's heating and ventilation system.
It also includes information regarding replacement of suspect parts, and returning the vehicle to a safe operating condition.
Harvey said that it has undertaken further analysis to find the root cause of the fires and the company would be open in its findings.
Vauxhall is the British equivalent of the Opel and the company said that the heating and ventilation system is different in the right hand model when compared to the left-hand drive cars.
