Assembly Line at Oshawa Facility in 2013 Are Shutted Down by GM

US carmaker General Motors is planning to shut down an assembly line at its Ontario plant in Oshawa, Canada, by June 2013.

The joint line, one of two assembly lines at the Oshawa plant, employing nearly 2,000 workers, was earlier planned to halt the production in 2008, but the carmaker extended production due to meet the rising demands for its Chevrolet Impala and Chevrolet Equinox crossover.

The company is planning to hire some of the 2,000 workers for its flex line facility, if the demand for the Impala requires a third shift.

GM said that it will also shift it's the production of Impala vehicle to its flex assembly line in 2013, which produces Chevrolet Camaro, Camaro Convertible, Buick Regal and Cadillac XTS.

According to GM, it will manufacture the Equinox Crossover SUV at its Spring Hill facility in Tennesse, US.
