Covidien, a developer of patient monitoring devices, has unveiled Nellcor SpO2 single parameter module.
Nellcor SpO2 module, designed for use with Philips' IntelliVue MP40, MP90, MX 600, MX 700 and MX 800 monitors, creates complete picture of patient's SpO2 and pulse rate functions.
The respiratory function readings of SpO2 and pulse rate can serve as an early warning and help clinicians to treat potentially life-threatening events.
The Nellcor SpO2 module, incorporating Nellcor OxiMax pulse oximetry technology, is also compatibile with Nellcor forehead sensor, Nellcor non-adhesive sensors and single-patient-use oximetry sensors.
Covidien respiratory and monitoring solutions president Robert J. White said continuous monitoring of oxygen saturation through single parameter module's pulse oximetry technology improves clinical decision-making affecting patient safety.
"This new product offering underscores the commitment of Covidien to patient care across all areas of the hospital, from the general care ward to critical care areas, such as the intensive care unit and neonatal care ward," White added.
Covidien respiratory and monitoring solutions chief medical officer Scott Kelley said as Nellcor OxiMax technology relies on cardiac signals, it mitigates signal interference, and offers clinicians an accurate and reliable means for monitoring patients in a variety of settings and challenging conditions, such as low perfusion.
"Patient care and safety is further enhanced by an alarm management feature that helps clinicians overcome 'alarm fatigue' by distinguishing between minor, transient events and clinically significant changes in desaturation," Kelley added.
