Lone Star Western Beef of West Virginia Recalls About 109 Pounds of Beef Jerky Products

Lone Star Western Beef of West Virginia is recalling about 109 pounds of beef jerky products as they were not processed at the correct temperature, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS)

The products being recalled include 1oz., 3oz. and 16oz. packs of 'Lone Star Western Beef Inc. W.V. Original Beef Jerky.' produced on 12 August 2013.

The affected products feature the establishment number 'EST. 19563' inside the USDA Mark of Inspection. The 16oz. packages can be further identified by the package code '081213.'

These products were shipped to a distributor in North Central West Virginia and sold to retail stores.

The recall was initiated after the FSIS found the problem during a routine verification activity. The agency's personnel found that the beef jerky was not processed at the correct temperature to ensure that the ready-to-eat product was safe to consume.

FSIS and Lone Star Western Beef have received no reports of illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. Consumers concerned of illness have been advised to contact a healthcare provider.
