8 projects of the corporation were given the 2014-2015 National Prizes for Excellent Project and 1 project won The Lu Ban Award for Construction Project. Southern Hami - Zhengzhou ± 800kV HVDC Project and Xianyou Pumped Storage Hydropower Station in Fujian won the National Gold Prize for Excellent Project. It is the 6th time for UHV projects and the first time for hydropower projects of the corporation to be given the award.
The National Prize for Excellent Project is the first and highest national award for quality engineering projects with the strictest criteria among awards of the same kind. From 2014 to 2015, a total of 217 engineering projects were given the award with 8 being given the gold medal. The Lu Ban Award for Construction Project, organized by China Construction Industry Association, is a national award for quality construction projects in China.
Hami-Zhengzhou project is the first UHV transmission project under the national initiative to deliver out power generated in Xinjiang to other Provinces. It is the first ±800 kV/ 8 GW DC transmission project in the world and the first UHV project for a combination of large scale thermal power and hydropower transmission, which is an innovation with strategic significance. The Xianyou Pumped Storage Hydropower Station operated by State Grid Xinyuan Company Ltd. used the 300MW large capacity pumped storage unit for 500m water head with full intellectual property right and the 500kV electric cable and terminal with a length of more than 1000m independently developed, manufactured and assembled by China, breaking the long term monopoly of western countries in this area and promoting the industrial upgrading of pumped storage projects. The two projects emphasized technological innovation and the application of research results, adopted advanced concepts in design and met the requirements of high standard projects with a high level of independent innovation, making breakthroughs in system research and project design, key equipment development, assembly, construction and system adjustment. The 6 projects of the company that won the National Prize for Excellent Project are: Xingxian (Guxian) 500kV substation in Lvliang, Shanxi, Xingxian-Lvliang 500 kV power transmission line in Shanxi, Yuanding 500kV substation in Fujian, Daizong 500kV substation in Shandong, Wuning 500kV substation in Zhejiang and Ganzi Xinduqiao 500kV substation in Sichuan.
The Eastern Puyang 500kV substation constructed and operated by SGCC Henan Electric Power Company won the Lu Ban Award for Construction Project. The project began in March 2013 and was put into operation in June 2014. Aiming at wining the Lu Ban Award, the project met quality standard, adopted innovative techniques, followed rational designing plans with outstanding performance in major technical indices, producing economic and social benefit and providing solid guarantee in power supply for the social and economic development of the local area.
In recent years, in line with the development of “Grand Construction”, SGCC, aiming at making every new project up to the standard of quality project, comprehensively adopted new techniques and strengthened the standard quality control of capital construction, leading to a continued improvement in project quality, increased awareness of project safety and quality and alleviated ability in subcontract management and control as well as improved quality in equipment assembly. Since 2005, 8 projects of the corporation won the National Gold Prize for Excellent Project, 91 projects won the National Prize for Excellent Project and 19 projects won the Lu Ban Award, taking the lead in the industry in the number of award-winning projects.
