Olde Thompson is recalling 1,075 cases of Earth’s Pride Organics Organic Oregano packed in 2.2oz. glass jar due to possible contamination by Salmonella, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The recall affects Earth's Pride Organics: Organic Oregano 2.2 oz. in glass jar with UPC code: 400000290942 and lot codes 060367, 060692, 061252 and 061864 located on the bottom of the jar.
The product was sold exclusively at BJ's Wholesale Club in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia between 1 January 2013 and 10 July 2013.
The bacterium was discovered during routine sampling of raw materials. There have been no reported illnesses.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in people with weakened immune systems and can result in fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
In some cases, infection with Salmonella can cause the organism getting into the bloodstream and result in severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
